Positive parenting and children rights awareness in eastern Uganda
- COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION ON CHILD RIGHTS AND PARENTING
In line with our commitment to promoting child welfare and family development, we conducted 30 community sensitization campaigns targeting parents, caregivers, children, and youth. These engagements aimed at increasing awareness of children’s rights and responsibilities, while also promoting positive parenting practices within communities.
These sensitization efforts were guided by key national and global frameworks such as the Children Act (Cap 59) of Uganda, which emphasizes the protection and welfare of children, and the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
During these sessions, strong emphasis was placed on:
-
- The role of parents and caregivers in the holistic growth and development of children
- Promoting responsible parenting and child protection
- Encouraging families to prioritize education as a foundation for a better future
- Strengthening community responsibility in safeguarding children’s rights
The sensitization activities were successfully conducted across several districts in Central and Eastern Uganda, including Kibuku, Pallisa, Mbale, Kapchorwa, Bududa, Busia, Kumi, Tororo, Mukono, and Wakiso. These engagements contributed to building more informed, responsible, and child-friendly communities.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENTS AND EMPOWERMENT
As part of our youth-focused interventions, we organized four youth empowerment sessions, reaching a total of 207 young people across various regions in Eastern and Central Uganda.
These sessions were designed to equip youth with practical knowledge and life skills to help them navigate adolescence confidently and responsibly. The discussions aligned with national health promotion efforts led by the Ministry of Health Uganda, particularly in the area of adolescent health.
Key topics covered included:
-
-
- Body changes during growth and development (puberty awareness)
- Personal hygiene and body cleanliness
- Self-care practices and healthy lifestyle habits
-
The sessions created a safe and interactive space where young people could openly discuss their concerns, ask questions, and receive accurate information. As a result, participants demonstrated improved awareness of personal health, self-confidence, and responsible behavior.
Conclusion
Through these community and youth-focused initiatives, we continue to contribute to the development of informed families, empowered youth, and safer communities across Uganda. Strengthening awareness at the grassroots level remains key in ensuring that children grow up in supportive environments where their rights are protected and their potential is fully realized.
