Strengthening Skills Development at Shared Love Schools

At Shared Love Schools, we remain committed to equipping our learners with practical skills that prepare them for self-reliance and future employment. In addition to formal education, all learners in both the primary and secondary sections actively participate in vocational skills training programs.

These programs are aligned with Uganda’s national development priorities, particularly the Skilling Uganda Strategy under the Ministry of Education and Sports, which emphasizes hands-on learning and competence-based education. Our learners are trained in a variety of practical courses, including:

  • Tailoring and garment design
  • Mechanics and basic engineering skills
  • Building and construction
  • Hairdressing and personal grooming

Through these initiatives, many learners have acquired foundational technical skills, enhancing their confidence, creativity, and readiness for future livelihood opportunities.

Promoting Economic Empowerment through Practical Learning

In addition to vocational training, we have integrated family economic empowerment initiatives to nurture entrepreneurial skills among our learners. Through this program, a number of children were supported with rabbits as starter projects.

This initiative is in line with community-based livelihood approaches promoted by programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Uganda, which encourages households to engage in small-scale income-generating activities.

By managing these small projects, learners gain practical experience in:

  • Basic animal husbandry and care
  • Responsibility and project management
  • Savings and income generation skills

These hands-on experiences not only reinforce classroom learning but also empower children with the mindset and ability to become self-reliant and economically productive individuals in the future.

Conclusion
Through our integrated approach to education and skills development, Shared Love Schools continue to nurture competent, innovative, and empowered learners who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
